At our recent Hunter & North West Racing Association meeting in 2023 , John Sunderland( MRC Chairman) won the special award known as The Bede Thomas Memorial Award . This award is made to a person who has made an outstanding or meritorious contribution to the racing industry in HNWRA area in the last 12 months.
The perpetual trophy was donated by Bede family, and Bede made a huge contribution to racing at his home club Inverell and was a long-term owner and racing official. It was a great honour to find out that previously Jim Rodger( Director MRC) had won this perpetual trophy and will now pass on the trophy onto John, who has made an outstanding contribution to country racing , community charities and MRC. Congratulations John well deserved, and we are very proud that MRC have had two directors from MRC win this trophy
