October 31, 2019
It’s one of Muswellbrook Race Club’s busiest times of the year and next week the club will finalise preparations for 2 big days of racing.
It all starts on Sunday 3rd November with Ladies Day featuring the Sandy Hollow Cup.
“Ladies Day has moved from September and now adds to a very vibrant 2 day spring racing carnival for us,” said MRC General Manager Duane Dowell.
“Bookings for our Ladies Luncheon upstairs in Silks Function Room are all but sold out and we have taken plenty of lawn platter package bookings in our grounds as well.”
The Ladies Luncheon is being hosted by Bernadette McLoughlin from Tabcorp who will be taking guests through the finer art of how to pick horses from the mounting yard and other fun activities throughout the afternoon including Fashions on the Field.
“Its all shaping up to be a great day!”
Gate entry is free on this day which also includes kids entertainment.
Dowell also explained that both days are very different.
“Melbourne Cup Day (5th November) continues to bring healthy crowds and attracts an older demographic and plenty of visitors from outside the local area all wanting a country race day experience on Melbourne Cup Day.”
“I expect this year to be no different”.
Feature races on Melbourne Cup Day include the Muswellbrook Shire Council Mayors Cup (1750m) and the Muswellbrook Coal Company Bowman Sprint (900m).
Another focus on the day will be the Cancer Council who will set up a stall promoting Bowel Cancer screening with a race name also included reminding patrons to get tested.
“If we can help promote a message getting out to people to improve their health, we are all for it” Dowell continued.
“The type of crowd we attract that day is a good fit for such a promotion.”
Gates open at 11.30am on Melbourne Cup Day with the Melbourne Cup due to be shown on the big screen at 3pm. General Admisssion is just $10 for Adults.
